Stworzenie pierwszej mapy przez beginera nie nastręcza zbyt wielu trudności. Mamy tu do dyspozycji prostą akcję: tworzymy matkę (rdzeń), a zaraz potem implantujemy z niej w elementarnie prosty sposób (ja robię to używając klawisza „insert”) kolejne gałęzie. Przy inicjalnych działaniach nie musimy się głowić, jaki wybrać szablon, który wariant rozwiązania (ci jest handicapem innych, bardziej zaawansowanych programów). To, że program i to, co oferuje w scenariuszu swych rozwiązań jest proste, zasadniczo liniowe - jednowymiarowe. Największą zaletą (punktem przewagi) FreeMind jest prostota.
